LiveCode License Types

LiveCode is available in three license types: Personal, Commercial or Educational.

Commercial License

This is the standard LiveCode license for commercial use. You need this license if you are using LiveCode for any commercial purpose, including within a company creating in-house solutions, creating applications to sell, creating applications to promote a product or service and creating ad supported software. This license type starts at $299 for a basic package that deploys to your choice of Windows/Mac Desktops, Linux Desktops or the Web. Additional Deployment Packs are available covering mobile devices and server environments. Distribution of software created with this license is royalty free.

Personal License

The personal LiveCode license is for non-commercial use. You may purchase this license if you are an individual or a non-profit organization. This license costs $99 and comes with a single deployment option of your choice: Desktop, Web, Server or Mobile. You may add additional Deployment Packs for $99 each. You may create applications to give away freely to others, including to any appropriate app store for mobile devices. Applications created with this license will include a splash screen or watermark. The Server Deployment Pack comes with a limit on the number of connections with this license type. You may not charge a fee or sell applications created with this license, use it within a company or commercial organization or create ad-supported software. However you may upgrade this license at any time simply by paying the price between it and the appropriate Commercial License. So for example, if you start creating your own free applications but then decide to sell them, it’s easy to upgrade at that point. We will not invoice a company for purchases of this license type. We reserve the right to refuse a purchase or revoke a license if we believe you are in violation of these conditions.

Educational License

This license comes with the same restrictions as the Personal License, above. However in addition to licenses starting at $99 per Deployment Pack, we have multi-user licenses available for Universities and K-12 schools. The multi-user packs include all deployment options.

Trial Licenses

Trial licenses are for evaluation purposes only. Trial licenses run for 30 days. If you need longer to evaluate the software, please contact support and we will be happy to extend your trial period. Software created with the trial license will open with a splash screen and only run for a few minutes. Redistribution of software created with a trial license is prohibited. We will normally include trial versions of any Deployment Packs you have not purchased within your LiveCode installation. However this does not apply to pre-release Deployment Packs that have not yet been integrated into the core product. Pre-release software is available for purchase only.

Upgrade Policy

When you purchase a new LiveCode license, you get three months worth of free upgrades, during which you receive any new release automatically. You also will get any .0x release for your major version number eg if you bought version 5, you will also get 5.0.1, 5.0.2 etc. If we release an upgrade to 5.1, outside the three month grace period, you would need to pay a "minor" upgrade fee to get that release. If we release 6.0, you would need to pay a "major" upgrade fee. Typically "minor" upgrades cost around 1/3rd of the initial license price, and "major" upgrades cost around 1/2.

Summary

Trial License	30 day trial. Standalone applications will run for a few minutes. Commercial redistribution is prohibited.
Personal License	Non-commercial use only. Standalone applications may not be distributed for any commercial or for-profit purposes. A splash screen will be displayed when the application loads which states this limitation. Server connections are limited. Not for profit distribution is royalty free.
Educator License	Educational use only. Standalone applications may not be distributed for any commercial or for-profit purposes. Limitations an per Personal License.
Commercial License	Standard Commercial License. Applications may be distributed royalty-free for commercial purposes.

All re-distribution of standalone applications is subject to the terms in the LiveCode End-User License Agreement.
